Asymmetric Free-Hand Interaction on a Large Display and Inspirations for Designing Natural User Interfaces

چکیده

Hand motion sensing-based interaction, abbreviated as ‘free-hand interaction’, provides a natural and intuitive method for touch-less interaction on large display. But due to inherent usability deficiencies of the unconventional size display kinematic limitations user’s arm joint movement, display-based free-hand is suspected have different performance across whole areas To verify this, multi-directional target pointing selection experiment was designed conducted based ISO 9241-9 evaluation criteria. Results show that (1) in close center body had higher accuracy than peripheral-body areas; (2) asymmetric at left side right body. More specifically, left-hand left-sided area more efficient accurate right-sided area. For right-hand result converse; moreover, (3) dominant hand generated non-dominant hand. Lessons strategies are discussed designing user-friendly user interfaces displays-based interactive applications.

Natural User Interfaces: Trend in Virtual Interaction

Based on the fundamental constraints of natural way of interacting such as speech, touch, contextual and environmental awareness, immersive 3D experiences-all with a goal of a computer that can see listen, learn talk and act. We drive a set of trends prevailing for the next generation of user interface: Natural User Interface (NUI).New technologies are pushing the boundaries of what is possible...

Natural User Interfaces in Mobile Phone Interaction

User interfaces for mobile devices move away from mainly buttonand menu-based interaction styles and towards more direct techniques, involving rich sensory input and output. The recently proposed concept of Natural User Interfaces (NUIs) provides a way to structure the discussion about these developments. We examine how two-sided and around-device interaction, gestural input, and shapeand weigh...

A novel click-free interaction technique for large-screen interfaces

We developed a novel click-free interface for laser-pointer-based systems with wall-sized screens. The technique includes two moving operations: “crossing,” which uses four edges as a crossing target to execute a command, and “encircling,” which selects objects by drawing a circle around them. This paper describes the proposed interface, its implementation, and an experiment conducted to test t...

Designing Natural Language User Interfaces with Elderly Users

Speech and other forms of natural language based applications are increasingly accepted. In particular in situations where traditional interaction techniques, such as mouse and keyboard/keypad input, seem limiting or simply distracting, speech can offer an adequate alternative. A concrete application for this kind of technology can be found in Ambient Assisted Living solutions, which aim at sup...
